Editing Your Website

Editing your website may not be as difficult as you think; if you can edit a Word document then you have the skills necessary to edit your website. Using the skills of a professional web designer can become quite expensive. If all your website requires are some basic changes to the text or images currently present you can make the necessary edits yourself using a word processing program such as Microsoft Word or Works.

Editing the contents

Many word processing programs that are currently available operate in the same way. In order to edit your website, you need to have a copy of the website or HTML file saved to your computer. Once you have located the file on your computer, your next step will be to open the word processing program you will be using and then open the website file. Now you will need to choose the text or image that you would like to edit and proceed to make any necessary changes just as you would when working with a word document.

The guidelines for editing using a word processing program

The guidelines for performing any editing using a word processing program are carried out in much the same way as any other document is edited with two exceptions. The first being that all images must be saved without the use of any spaces, the presence of spaces in image titles are not recognized by all web browsers. The second exception is that the document must be saved as a web page of HTML. Word documents carry the extension, .doc; webpage files end with HTML or htm extensions. The file or is the home page of your website. The editing process of your website after the file is opened in your word program is complete as well as editing a document that includes an image.

Editing the images

Editing your website’s image is done by clicking on the image you want to change and delete the existing image. To replace an image simply click on the location where you just deleted the old image and click “insert” in the menu bar, find the image and select an image from your file. The image that you choose to use on your web page can be resized to fit the area you entered. To do this click on the resizing boxes to increase or decrease the size of the image. If you are making changes to the heading on your webpage, you will need to format the text in the same way you would in a word document. First, select the text, choose the size, color, and font using options found in your menu bar.
