Twelve Creative Words for Design

Are you struggling to come up with new design ideas? Are you tired of looking at the same vintage furniture in every apartment and hotel lobby? When you’re tired of seeing the same thing over and over again, it’s time to shake things up. This can be done by turning to your trusty friends: words. Words have been used by designers for years as inspiration for creative designs and transformations, but they’re more than just a place to start—they can also deepen your creativity and lead you in new directions. So if you’re looking for some fresh ideas for decorating your home or office, here are 12 words that will help get those juices flowing:

Artful

Artful design is a creative process that uses both art and design elements. It’s also a combination of art and design, but it’s more than just that. Artful design is an approach to problem solving that draws from multiple disciplines, including painting, sculpture, illustration and even architecture.

Artful designers use inspiration from many different sources–for instance:

  • Nature (flowers or leaves)
  • History (ancient civilizations)
  • Culture (religious symbols)

Beautiful

Beautiful.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it’s a subjective term. Beauty can be found in details, process and people. It’s not something that you can pin down with one word or definition. Beauty isn’t just about pretty things; it’s also about how you make other people feel when they interact with your work.

Bright

Bright is a popular word in design because it can mean so many things. Bright colors, bright lighting, or even just a person with an upbeat personality are all examples of what you might call “bright.”

When used in conjunction with other adjectives, this word is also useful for describing objects that have been made more colorful or vibrant than usual. If someone has painted their room green instead of red, for example, we could say that they have chosen “a bright green” color scheme rather than simply saying “green.”

Clean

Clean is a word that can be used to describe many aspects of design. It can be used to describe the look and feel of a website or app, as well as the way it works.

Clean websites have clear lines, minimalism and high contrast between elements on the page. They’re also easy to navigate through: users don’t have to think about how they’ll get from one part of the site to another because everything is laid out clearly for them.

Colorful

Color is one of the most powerful tools in your design toolkit. It can help you create a sense of warmth and welcome, or it can make your design feel cold and uninviting. Colors also influence people’s moods, so choose them wisely!

  • Use a variety of colors: Color plays an important role in creating interest, so use as many different colors as possible in your designs. You don’t have to go crazy with neon green and hot pink–a simple palette that includes multiple shades of red, orange, yellow and blue will work just fine (you can always add more later).
  • Make sure they go together well: When choosing which colors go together best on a page or screen at any given moment depends entirely on context; sometimes it works better if all elements share one dominant hue while others are muted tones from within that same family instead; other times contrast between hues creates visual interest without being overwhelming for viewers’ eyesight because each hue stands out distinctly from its neighbors without losing its own identity either due to brightness differences or saturation levels being too high for comfortable viewing conditions (which would cause eye strain).

Fresh

Fresh is a word that can mean many things. It’s used in cooking to describe food that has been recently prepared, but it also refers to something new or not old. Fresh implies cleanliness and brightness–for example, “fresh air” means air without pollution.

Inviting

In inviting, you’re creating a space that’s warm and inviting. It’s not cold or clinical, sterile or impersonal. In fact, it can be formal or informal–it depends on what kind of feeling you want to convey in your design.

If you want to create an inviting atmosphere in your home office space, consider using fabrics like velvet and suede that are soft against the skin while still being durable enough for daily use over time. You might also try painting one wall of a room blue instead of white because blue tends to make people feel more relaxed as well as boosting creativity levels (source).

Modern

Modern is a style of art and design that emerged in the first half of the 20th century. It was influenced by cubism, futurism, constructivism and surrealism. Modern art is characterized by abstract and nonrepresentational forms that are often asymmetrical or unbalanced.

Modern design focuses on simplicity as an aesthetic goal; it has been described as “the clean lines of Bauhaus architecture”. Modern designers may also incorporate unusual materials such as glass or plastic into their work with mixed results.[1]

Open

Open is a word with many meanings. It can mean “open to the world,” as in an open concept space that invites connections to its surroundings. Or it can mean “open to new ideas,” as in an open mind that welcomes new ways of thinking and doing things. Open can also be used as a verb, like when you’re being open with someone about your feelings or revealing something private about yourself–in this case, the person receiving your openness may feel more comfortable sharing themselves with you because they know that their own level of intimacy won’t be pushed beyond their comfort zone.

Openness shows us who we truly are: honest and genuine beings who want nothing more than to connect with others on every level possible (and sometimes even beyond).

Serene

Serene is a positive word, and it’s also a great one for design. It’s the perfect adjective to describe something that is peaceful and calming. Serene can be used to describe art or life in general–you can say that you want your room to be serene, or that you want someone’s face to look serene.
