The Man Who Bends Reality

The Man Who Bends Reality is a sculpture by Jean Tinguely, located in the plaza of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. It was installed on May 22nd, 2018 as part of an exhibition titled “Time Capsules: Highlights from the Collection.”

The sculpture consists of a large metal armature that extends outward from its base and then bends back towards itself. The piece has been described as “a dynamic visual pun” because it’s meant to represent both an hourglass (because time flows) and also a bowler hat (because hats are worn at an angle).

This image was created by artist David Blaine, and it’s one of my favorites. It’s a still from the movie The Prestige where Mr. McFly (the rabbit) was created using CGI. The man in the suit is holding him as if he were real, but we know that he isn’t. This photo really shows how people can be fooled into believing things that aren’t true.

A mirror is a reflection of the self, of the world and its people, of the past and future. It is a tool used to reflect light onto objects so that we can see them better. In this way mirrors are like lenses that help us see more clearly what is happening around us in life.

Alone at the Top of the World, or Is It?

The image is a photograph of a lone climber on a mountain peak. The photographer, Tom Murphy, took this image in 2010 while hiking in Nepal’s Himalayas.

The title suggests that the climber is alone at the top of the world–but is he really? In my opinion, no! There are other climbers who have made it to this point on their own journeys (and I’m sure there are many more who didn’t make it). The mountaineer pictured here could be thinking back on his past experiences or looking forward to future ones with other climbers as well as himself.
